Title of Presentation: Trials and tribulations of putting a writing course
fully online

Brief abstract: Having followed an MA course in Online and Distance Education through Open University, I used the skills I learned to put my writing course fully online.  I experimented with a website, email lists, webinars, forums and social media to gain maximum exposure and to get feedback to inform the design and content.   The writing course had only been available in workshop format, but with the online course, I am now reaching students who are in the field or who travel frequently. This session will describe the challenges I faced and the solutions I found to overcome them.

Title of presentation:  Smart learning techniques to progress rapidly from the intermediate plateau to solid C1 level

Brief abstract:
Competent B2 adult learners need to move from the so-called ‘intermediate plateau’ towards C1 level.  They need to free themselves from bad habits that may be preventing them from improving.  They need to start accessing English in the same way they access their native language –using dictionaries sensibly, using immersive strategies and employing reflective noticing techniques.  They can make fast progress through appropriate listening and reading techniques and by using apps, Twitter, MOOCs, Netflix and many other techniques at hand.
This practical session will present useful materials, tools and techniques to aid learners in advancing quickly to their desired level.
